Working group of World Bank got acquainted with the Project process implementing in the “High Voltage Electric Networks” CJSC

“High Voltage Electric Networks” CJSC under the World Bank’s financing carries out reconstruction of “Noraduz-Lichk-Vardenis-Vayk-Vorotan-1” overhead transmission line and “Haghtanak” substation. To get acquainted with the progress of the project, the WB Working Group with the leadership of Regional Director for the South Caucasus Mercy Tembon visited “Noraduz-Lichk-Vardenis-Vayk-Vorotan-1” and “Haghtanak” substations and got acquainted with the ongoing reconstruction works.

“Noraduz-Lichk-Vardenis-Vayk-Vorotan-1” overhead transmission line will be put into operation in autumn. Works are carried out by Kalpataru Power Transmission LTD (India). The 220 kV “Noraduz-Lichk-Vardenis-Vayk-Vorotan-1” OHL, which was commissioned in the 1950s, is being reconstructed within the framework of the "Electricity supply reliability " project financed by the World Bank. The OTL is of crucial importance for the energy system and passing through the Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik provinces connecting the electricity generating main centers of the country: central and southern parts. As a result of reconstruction the capability of “Noraduz-Lichk-Vardenis-Vayk-Vorotan-1” OHL will reach from 250 MW up to 310 MW. Haghtanak" substation of “High Voltage Electric Networks” CJSC is being reconstructed by the allocated funds of World Bank within the framework of the "Electricity supply reliability" project. Works are carried out by the Russian company “Kaskad Energo” LLC.

The World Bank’s Working Group under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Energy infrastructure and Natural Resources Hayk Harutyunyan visited the substation and got acquainted with the process of reconstruction.

General Director of "High Voltage Electric Networks" Arthur Baghdasaryan informed that works are being carried out according to the defined time schedule. Large-scale earthworks have been already carried out, design works are completed. The equipment importing process will begin soon. In the result of reconstruction 220/10 kV "Haghtanak" distribution substation commissioned in 1988 will become 220/110/10 kV key substation. New autotransformers will be installed, a new 110 kV open switch yard will be constructed, 220 and 10 kV equipment will be replaced and relay protection equipment will be upgraded. Within the framework of the project will be constructed 10kV CSG new control buildings, Replacement of worn out and obsolete equipment will minimize emergency outages and losses, increase the safety and efficiency of the energy system, the reliability of consumers' electricity supply, and reduce operating costs. Reconstruction of "Haghtanak" substation is important for reliable power supply of central and south-western parts distribution substation and consumers of Yerevan. Reconstruction of "Haghtanak" substation is foreseen to be completed by the end of 2018.

After visit, WB Regional Director Mercy Tembon mentioned with satisfaction that the implemented works are quite impressive and expressed hope that during the next visit will be the same results. According to him, the World Bank's mission is to reduce poverty and improve the life quality of people, and the development of energy infrastructure and the reliability of the electricity supply of consumers are essential in that process.
