With the support of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and funded through the Electricity Supply Reliability Project Additional Financing sub-loan, the 110/6 kV "Vanadzor-1" substation of the High-Voltage Electric Networks company has been reconstructed. This substation was one of the oldest in the system, originally commissioned in 1933. It is located 125 km from Yerevan and occupies an area of 3.6 hectares. The project's contractor was the Chinese company Xian Electric Engineering Co. Ltd, with a contract value of $4,083,875.43 USD.
As part of the reconstruction, two power transformers were renovated, the 110 kV switchyard was rebuilt, 6 kV switchgear equipment was replaced, the control building was overhauled, and a SCADA system was installed.
The project's objective is to enhance the reliability and safety of Armenia’s power transmission system, improve the efficiency of power system operations, and reduce both the substation's operational costs and the number of emergency outages caused by equipment failures.
